our story

How Everything Started

We started out of a need of interact with other churches in our community and spend more time in fellowship getting to know our brothers and sister better. In 2013, for the Community Baptist Church of Somerset’s 5th Choir Anniversary celebration instead of each church bringing their own choir, we decided to put one big mass choir in one big concert with the goal of spending more time together.Since then we have had so much joy through the rehearsals, performances and fellowship that we couldn’t stop.

Our Mission

Our mission at Community Fellowship Mass Choir (CFMC) is to bring the presence of the Lord to the needy.  We bring the message of Jesus through songs throughout the greater community.  Our intent is to praise God in one accord since music goes beyond the boundaries of denomination.  It’s a great opportunity for us to know new members of our family, in Christ

Making a differenceOur Goal

Is to help other ministries meet their needs and goals by donating proceeds for Christian education, assisting local / international charitable organizations (i.e. Shelter for battered women and orphanages), local / international missionaries and the needy.

Meet Our Directors

Born in Brazil, Gabriel has been serving as Music Minister/Choir Director approximately 13 years. He directed the True Vine Gospel Choir, in Brazil for four years, before coming to the U.S.in 2007, with his wife Carolina. In 2008, Gabriel began his tenure as Music Minister at the Community Baptist Church of Somerset, NJ. In 2013, He founded the Community Fellowship Mass Choir, which started as a celebration of the Community Baptist Church’s True Light Choir anniversary and later a community choir with the mission of helping our community, international missions and charitable organizations. Gabriel is a professional drummer/percussionist, who has worked in many productions, recordings, TV shows and events, as musician, producer and/or director, prior to starting his ministerial life. On 2015 Gabriel and the CFMC received an award for “Extraordinary Community Services” by the organizations “FORNJ” and “CARE”ministries. Gabriel has ministered seminars and workshops on Gospel music and worship locally and overseas.

Carlos Eduardo Pereira da Costa was born in 1976 to Brazilian parents from Rio de Janeiro. Music was very common in his extended family, and so he started experimenting with music at an early age. His inexpensive toy instruments (a saxophone, a clarinet and a melodica) were inseparable to him. Although his mother was a formally trained piano player, he began learning to play the piano by ear. It was not until the age of thirteen that he decided to begin formal training for piano and music theory at the city conservatory. And when Carlos’ grandmother gave him her old classical guitar, he applied his new-found musical talent in learning to play it. Although Carlos did not choose to study music in college, he did stay within the field of arts study, Architecture and Urbanism being his major. In his free time, he continued to study music. Carlos has been working since 2009 as an Assistant Minister of Worship at Community Baptist Church of Somerset [New Jersey] and as pianist and arranger for the Community Fellowship Mass Choir since 2013.
